“There is no justification ever for choosing any part of what you know to be evil.”

Ayn Rand

Reflection: Ayn Rand words of wisdom are very true. There is no justification to doing evil. Doing what’s bad is very terrible, it is never right to choose the wrong. There is no reason to do what’s wrong. For example you can’t just rob and say it was the right thing to do because eventually you’ll go to jail and face the consequences. Never choose the wrong; there is no justification for doing the wrong. Choose the right and only do what’s right!

Reading

5 tips for success

Tip 5

Tip 5: keep a list of questions
When you feel confused about something you’re reading, write down any questions you have. Sometimes your questions are answered as you read further. If not, don’t be afraid to ask for help. Remember, teachers create assignments; they’ve read the text and are familiar with them. When you have specific questions, your teachers can provide answers that will help you better understand the material. Learning is rooted in questions developed and asked by the learner.
Asking questions to yourself, to the teacher and to others, is a great learning method. When you cease to ask questions, you cease to exist to a great extent. Read actively by silently asking questions as you read. Questioning immerses you into the material you are reading and therefore will expand your mental capacities more than almost.
The philosopher Sir Francis bacon said, “Knowledge is power.” Improving your reading comprehension is the key to gaining important knowledge and making the most out of your education. So pick up a book….and a pen.

“Every time I’ve done something that doesn’t feel right, it ended up not being right.”

Mario Cuomo

Reflection: This statement by Mario Cuomo is very true. You know something is not right because you can feel it. Every time you something doesn’t feel right, it ends up not being right. The human conscience lets you know that something is not right. People who choose the wrong ignore this conscience alarm, and still do what’s wrong. If something doesn’t feel right don’t do it because it is definitely not the right. Choose the right and listen to your conscience because the majority of the time its advising you with the correct thing to do.

“The Three Nevers”
Never Lie, Never Cheat, Never Steal

5 Tips for Staying Motivated

Tips 1-2

To succeed in high School and college, you have to do your best at all times. But sometimes it’s hard to stay motivated, even when really care about the work you’re doing. Here are five ways to stay on the right track.

1.   Focus on High-Impact Activities

The key to success in school is staying focused on your course work. Make a list to get an overall picture of your workload before you start to tackle any of it. Then, make a plan. Although it’s tempting to do the simplest assignments first, those that make more time and effort to accomplish are probably the ones that you’ll learn the most form. To determine what your priorities are, rank your assignments in the order of their importance. Then rearrange your time and devote more energy toward those that have the greatest impact on your course work and grades. For example, even though all homework assignments are important, studying for a midterm exam takes priority over writing a paragraph for English class. As you complete each task, think of it as another step on your way to college success.

2.   Create New challenges

Changing your approach can help you stay interested in what you’re doing. If you’ve been given an assignment similar to one you’ve done in the past, think about it in a different way. if you wrote an essay for a creative writing assignment last year, try a poem this time. For book reports pick a history book instead of another biography.

“Character is higher than intellect”

Ralph Waldo Emerson

Reflection: Ralph Waldo Emerson is definitely right. Character is way higher than intellect. You may be very smart or even genius but if you have a bad character that gift is put to waste. It’s all about being smart and doing what’s right. For example if you are a very highly intelligent person but you have a very corrupt character and use you smartness for evil, then it’s a waste of you being smart. Character matters a lot because it makes you who you are. Both intellectualness and character are important essentials in making you who you are. Choose the right and have a bright character!

Take Control of Homework

So it doesn’t Control You

Part 1

Although very few students love homework, it does serve a purpose. Homework helps you:

·        Reinforce what you’ve learned during the day.

·        Build study habits that are essential in college.

·        Prepare for your classes

·        Get a sense of progress

Here are some tips to help you deal with homework more efficiently and effectively.

Set the Mood

Create a good study area with everything you need (for example, a calculator). If you don’t have a quiet place at home, try your school or local library.

Know Where to Begin

Make a list of everything you need to do, and note all deadlines. Do the more difficult assignments first, so you don’t have to face them at the end.

Study at the Same Time Every Day

Even if you don’t have homework every night, use the time to review notes. If sitting down to work is part of your normal routine, you’ll approach it with less dread. Also you’ll become a pro at using time productively.

“I think it better to do right, even if we suffer in so doing, than to incur the reproach of our consciences and posterity.”

Robert E. Lee

Reflection: Robert E. Lee is very right. It is better to do the right and suffer than choosing the wrong. Working very hard all day long is a great example. You might be working and suffering from exhaustion all day long just to support your family and yourself, but you are doing what’s right and not stealing from others or robing like other people do. It may make you suffer, but in the long run it will benefit you. Doing what’s right may make you suffer but it will all pay off in the future. Choose the right!!!

Note-Taking Strategies

Part 4

For review
Once you’ve done all of the above, you’ll find you’ve created your own personalized study guide. Cover the main section of the page and use the key words and questions in the left margin as a quiz.
Stick to it
Review your notes the day you take them and all your notes once a week. That way, you won’t need to study as much when it’s test time.
You’ve been doing the work all along.
Tryout the Cornell System, but if it doesn’t work for you, experiment with other methods. Ask your classmates how they take notes or ask a teacher for advice. Taking good notes requires practice, like any other skill. And the more you work at it now, the more prepared you’ll be to take notes in college.

Summary:

A teenage boy names Tony Farmer kidnapped his girlfriend and robbed. He was an athletically gifted teen who was one of the highest-recruited high school basketball players in Ohio. While he was in the court room getting sentenced to prison he collapsed. He was sentenced to almost 5 years in prison for kidnapping and robbery. Tony Farmer clearly chose the wrong, and not even his start potential could save him.

Reflection:

Tony Farmer chose the wrong and had to face his consequences. Kidnapping and robbery are severe crimes and he was sentenced to prison. This shows how choosing the wrong can put you in serious problem. You will never get away with committing crime, and Tony Farmer is a perfect example. He chose the wrong and he couldn’t even handle facing his consequences. He collapsed even before the judge was done talking and sentencing him. Choose the right and don’t get into problems.

Note- Taking Strategies

Part 3

After Class
As soon as class ends, review your notes and fill in any blanks. Underline, highlight and use symbols to sort through the information. If you don’t understand something, get help from your teacher or classmates. After you’ve reviewed all your notes from class, in the left-hand area of the page write down key words and questions your teacher might ask on a test. At the bottom of each page, write a summary of the notes. This helps you digest what you’ve learned. It also improves your memory of the material for the long term and for test down the road.

“He listens well who takes notes.”

-Dante Alighieri

Reflection: This statement is very true. Note taking is a very important part in learning and refreshing your memory with things you have learned. Those who take notes have excellent hearing skill and listens to what is right. For example, I had a trig test a Wednesday and I had forgotten many little things, but luckily I had my notes and they were a big help refreshing my memory. If I hadn’t studied my notes or have any notes I would have failed but I was really fortunate to have my notes. Taking Notes is really important. Choose the right and take notes!!!!

Note-Taking Strategies

Part 2

During Class

One approach that has been proven effective is called the Cornell Note-Taking System. Here are some of its methods. Start by using the main section of your page to take down your notes during class. Be sure to leave space on the left side of the page and the bottom. Things to keep in mind:

1.   Get the speaker’s main points. Don’t write down every word you hear.

2.   Leave blanks in your notes to add explanations later.

3.   Organize as you write. Pay attention to cues such as repetition and emphasis

4.   Indicate main and supporting points as you go.

5.   Jot down key vocabulary, important facts and formulas.

6.   Ask questions. If you’re confused, it’s better to ask while the material is fresh in your mind.

JJJJMy Best friendsJJJJ

My best friends are the best and they are super cool. Lately I haven’t seen them and I’ve been pretty sad. One of my best friends Evelyn moved to a different school outside of town and it really affected me and my best friends Rafaela and Jaque. We are super close and are always there for each other when we are in need. We go out, have fun, talk, and help each other out. The bond I have created with my best friends is unbreakable and not even distance or school segregations can break us apart. Two of my best friends go to SSJ so I see them rarely and my other best friend Evelyn moved to Santa Fe springs high school. It’s really weird not seeing them for a long time because I am so used to seeing them.  Although we don’t see each other much we still keep in contact. I’ve really been missing them but I can’t wait for Friday to go out and have fun all together.

“When you believe you can – you can.”

                              -Dr. Maxwell Maltz

Reflection: Dr. Maxwell Maltz is absolutely correct. If you believe in yourself you can accomplish anything in the world. Don’t set yourself back, just believe in yourself and success will come your way. If you believe in yourself you can accomplish your goals and be successful in life. If you don’t believe yourself, then you won’t accomplish anything. It all begins with you, and if you believe you can, you will succeed and accomplish anything you want to accomplish.
